Established in 1952 by Hiroshi Tsubota, Tsubota Pearl manufactures lighters, cigarette cases and leather goods in the heart of Tokyo. The Hard Edge model was developed in 1999 as a creative exploration into a fresh lighter design. The result is a fashionable smoking accessory representative of the vibrant design aesthetic of Japan.

The Bolbo is a more traditional take reminiscent of the lighters that were widely popular in the mid 20th century.

The lighter functions very similarly to a Zippo: using liquid oil lighter fluid, a replaceable flint striker and a wick and wadding system.

To fuel, a small screw is undone in the base and fuel is added.

The flint is replaced by removing the small screw on the top opposite the wick.

Occasionally the wick will need to be replaced, which is also done via the bottom.

As a lighter fluid system, the fuel will evaporate over time, even when not used. It usually requires filling every 1 - 2 weeks.
